The Central Serengeti / Seronera Sector is located at the heart of Serengeti National Park and is the most visited region in the park. This area is popular because it has wildlife throughout the year. Many animals live here permanently, and it is one of the best places to see big cats during game drives.
The Central Serengeti is also known as the Seronera region. The Seronera River, which flows through the Seronera Valley, is a permanent water source. Because of this river, animals gather in the area even during the dry season. Wildlife commonly seen here includes giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, impalas, topi, zebras, crocodiles, hippos, and hyenas. Big cats such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards are present in high numbers, making this area a strong choice for game viewing. Many bird species are also found along the river and open plains.
Best time to visit the Central Serengeti / Seronera Sector

The Seronera region can be visited at any time of the year. However, the months of April to June and October to December are especially good. During these periods, the Great Migration passes through the Central Serengeti as animals move north or south depending on rainfall. Even outside migration months, resident wildlife ensures good sightings.
The kopjes in this area are important game viewing spots. Moru Kopjes, Simba Kopjes, and Maasai Kopjes are well known resting and hunting areas for lions and leopards. Moru Kopjes also offer a chance to see the endangered black rhino, although sightings are rare.
Activities in the Central Serengeti / Seronera Sector

Game drives are the main activity in the Seronera region. Visitors explore open grasslands, savannah, woodlands, and river banks while searching for wildlife. Morning and afternoon game drives are common and offer good chances to see predators.
Hot air balloon safaris are also available in the Central Serengeti. These flights take place early in the morning and provide an aerial view of the plains and animals below. Booking in advance is advised.
Maasai village visits can be arranged to learn about Maasai culture, traditional dances, and daily life. Visitors can also buy handmade crafts as souvenirs.
The Central Serengeti and Seronera region receive many visitors, especially during peak months such as June and July. Booking accommodation early is strongly advised. Travelers who prefer quieter areas may choose to stay in other sectors, such as the Southern Serengeti. The Central Serengeti can be reached by road or by flying from Arusha to Seronera Airstrip.
