Detailed 5-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick Up from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
Your safari guide will pick you up from Arusha and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. As you approach the park, you will pass through forest areas with tall trees. These areas attract many bird species.
You will enjoy a game drive in the park where you may see tree climbing lions, elephants, wildebeests, baboons, hippos, buffaloes, and giraffes. Flamingoes are often seen along the shores of the lake during certain seasons.
In the evening, you will drive to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, you will leave Lake Manyara and drive to Serengeti National Park. The drive passes through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
You will arrive in Serengeti in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. This drive introduces you to the wide open plains of the Serengeti.
During the game drive, you may see lions, buffaloes, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, leopards, rhinos, impalas, and hippos. After the game drive, return to your lodge or safari camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
You will start the day with an early morning game drive in Serengeti. This is a good time to see animals that may have been missed the previous day.
After the game drive, return to the lodge, collect your packed lunch, and drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This area is a World Heritage Site and is home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater.
You will enjoy an afternoon game drive in the conservation area before heading to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive and Transfer to Tarangire National Park
After a very early breakfast, you will drive to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend to the crater floor for a game drive lasting about five hours.
The crater is home to many animals including elephants, lions, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, leopards, rhinos, wild dogs, reedbucks, and hippos. Many bird species are also found here.
After a picnic lunch, you will drive out of the crater and continue to Tarangire National Park. On arrival, you will check in at your lodge or safari camp and enjoy a relaxed evening.
Day 5: Game Drive in Tarangire and Departure
Tarangire National Park is known for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. After breakfast, you will check out and go for a half day game drive.
You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, cheetahs, leopards, kudus, oryx, and elands. After the game drive, you will be driven back to Arusha for your flight home or to your next destination.
