Explore Grumeti Game Reserve: A Serengeti Wilderness Haven

One way to enhance the genuine experience of visiting the Serengeti National Park is to arrive there quickly and without fatigue. Furthermore, it is Tanzania’s biggest national park.During the dry season, the park hosts the much-awaited wildebeest migration, when these creatures migrate to the neighboring Masai Mara game reserve in search of better pastures.

Being among Tanzania’s largest parks, the park spans an approximate size of 14,763 square kilometers. The wildebeests, which are extremely sought-after creatures throughout their calving and migration seasons, live on the boundless plains that the Masai have described.

Everyone should have the opportunity to see the incredible spectacle of seeing the wildebeest travel thousands of kilometers on their journey from the Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara. Large herds of buffalo and elephants are two more notable features of the Serengeti. Since they travel with the millions of wildebeest to cross from the Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara game reserve, gazelles and zebras are another group of animals that make for interesting viewing.

Grumeti Game Reserve

The Grumeti game reserve is located in the same locality like the Serengeti national Park. It’s therefore part of the greater Ngorongoro conservation area and the greater Serengeti ecosystem. The reserve got this status form the government of Tanzania in the year 1994. This area was gazzetted to conserve the path of the wildebeest. They move from the Serengeti National Park to the Masai Mara game reserve in Kenya during the dry season. The reserve covers an area of about 350,000 acres of land. The area is managed by the Grumeti Communtiy and wildlife conservation Fund since 2002.

The conservation area is home to the Grumeti River. It’s a major part in the wildebeest migrating since they have to cross this river. This water is crocodile infested. It’s crucial that the crossing wildebeest have to survive and continue with the other part of the journey. Millions of animals cross this river during this season. The great migration happens during the dry season in the moths of July to September. The banks of this river are covered in Acacia trees, some woodland. This are many predators other than crocodiles that stay here to trap their prey.
